TELECOMMUNICATIONS OVERVIEW
1 Day Manager Overview
PURPOSE
The
purpose of the 1 day seminar, as a starting point, leading to more
detailed, and focused seminars, is to provide personnel with a big
picture overview of the telecommunications industry, a focus on current,
as well as future markets for their products and services. To achieve
this goal, this presentation is structured as follows:
 |
provide an overview of
the telecommunications environment, i.e. regulatory involvement,
telephone operator categories, and business plans, appropriate market
statistics |
 |
describe some basics of
the underlying technologies and concepts for voice, data, and video
transmission |
 |
address the network,
from the customer’s premises, through the access network, central
office, into the wide area network |
This will provide a
building block approach from end to end through the network, addressing
voice and data networking terminology and concepts. In addition this 1
day seminar will set the scene for a more detailed 3 day seminar,
accenting general data and voice concepts and solutions, TCP/IP, ATM,
MPLS, and Voice over IP. Also a 1 day seminar focusing on wireless is
also provided. While these three seminars were designed to be presented
as a group over 5 days, each can standalone, given the appropriate
background of the attendees.
OBJECTIVES
At the
conclusion of the overview seminar delegates will be able to:
 |
Understand the many
telecommunications terminology and concepts |
 |
Tie loose ends together
by using a building block approach |
 |
Understand the
importance and influence of new, or relatively new technologies such
as ATM, Gigabit Ethernet, ADSL, WDM, 3G wireless, etc. |
 |
Know some of the
business issues of the telephone business of the future |
 |
Know some of the market
drivers for products in this market |
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone
needing an introductory overview of telephony concepts in the 1-day
overview, or more in-depth in the 3 day seminar, which would include
those persons responsible for designing telecommunications hardware or
software, new engineers who have the theory, but need some practical
application of the technology, or those in finance, or marketing who
need to understand the terminology, or concepts. Those new to this
environment will be able to fill in gaps in knowledge due to a lack of
background in the field, those with some experience will learn ways to
explain concepts in terms using analogies that anyone can understand.
Those with a predominantly data background who now find themselves
responsible for voice will obtain comfort with this seemingly foreign
environment. These seminars are a must for new entrant company personnel
getting into the telecommunications related businesses. Those in
software development will gain a better understanding of the network
their applications are meant to operate over, or control.
Product managers,
hardware / software engineers, and planning are but three job titles
that can benefit from these seminars.
