INTRODUCTION
TO TELECOMMUNICATIONS
(3 Days)
PURPOSE
Since the Telecom Reform
Act of 1996, and the decline of the dot.com boom, telecommunications
in the USA has changed tremendously, with many new entrant carriers,
technologies, applications, and the need to justify telecommunications
expenditures.
This will
greatly increase the need for knowledgeable personnel in all of these
industries, and of course in their customers. Increasingly, more and more people
are having to learn about the technology and regulatory issues, how to utilize
this technology in business plans, and how to cope with planning for it.
Unless one has worked for a telecommunication company or in a large
telecommunications department of an organization, it is very difficult to find a
way to learn what is important, where to start, and how to plan for utilizing
telecommunications to further corporate goals.
This seminar is designed to cater to a typical audience mix of vendors and
their customers. It is important that each understand the concerns of the other.
These three days will concentrate on the many technologies and techniques
currently available, as well as discuss where the future is headed.
OBJECTIVES
At the
conclusion of the seminar delegates will be able to:
 |
Understand the many
telecommunications terminology and concepts |
 |
Tie loose ends together by
using a building block approach |
 |
Understand the importance and
influence of new, or relatively old technologies such as ATM, Gigabit Ethernet,
ADSL, SDH, IMT-2000 wireless, etc. |
 |
To learn the role of
telecommunications as a tool for improved corporate productivity, e.g. Computer
Telephony Integration (CTI) |
 |
To learn the information
needed and process of planningTelecommunications strategy from both a customer
and a vendor perspective |
WHO
SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone needing a
technical understanding of telephony concepts, which would include those persons
responsible for their company's telecommunications, telecommunications supplier
representatives who need the background necessary to relate to increasingly
sophisticated users, or new engineers who have the theory, but need some
practical application of the technology. Those new to this environment will be
able to fill in gaps in knowledge due to a lack of background in the field,
those with some experience will learn ways to explain concepts in terms using
analogies that anyone can understand. Those in data processing who now find
themselves responsible for voice will obtain comfort with this seemingly foreign
environment. This seminar is a must for new entrant company personnel getting
into the telecommunications services business.
