DATA /
VOICE CONVERGENCE
(3 Days)
PURPOSE
This 3-day seminar has
as its focus, data telecommunications, which includes both Wide Area
Networking (WAN), Metropolitan Area Networking (MAN), and Local Area
Networking (LAN). After the essentials of these environments are
covered, including an accent on the TCP/IP architecture and protocols;
specific protocols such as X.25, frame relay, and ATM in the WAN, and
ethernet, ethernet switching, routing, and LAN switching in the LAN will
be addressed. The convergence of voice and data will also be accented,
and will include Voice over IP, and the general concepts of voice, data,
and video convergence. A special accent will also be placed on fiber
optic concepts, specifically Fiber To The Curb / Home, Optical Ethernet,
and the emergence of Ethernet in the MAN & WAN; and MPLS as a possible
replacement for ATM.
OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this
seminar delegates will be able to:
 |
Articulate how data
moves within a Local Area Network (LAN) and a Wide Area Network (WAN)
and key concepts such as TCP/IP, ATM, MPLS, VPNs and others.
|
 |
Articulate the main
concepts behind LANs such as topology, access protocols, switching and
others. |
 |
Articulate the main
concepts behind voice over IP including concepts such as ITU-T
standards, Audio and Video digitalization, transport and control
protocols, etc. as well as IETFís SIP alternative; and be able to
explain why this revolution is happening. |
 |
Articulate the main
ideas behind the convergence of Voice, Data and Video |
 |
Articulate future
directions in telecommunications and its technology and applications |
TARGET AUDIENCE
Employees interested
in an introductory to intermediate overview of data telecommunications
technologies. This intermediate seminar will be highly useful for
employees entering into the hardware or software product development for
the telecommunications services business. The seminar is also of
interest for software developers, product managers and hardware and
software engineers. Course may be prerequisite for the other workshops
in this series.
SEMINAR
LEADER
These
seminars have been developed by Gary Zielke, President and Richard
Parkinson, Vice President of Infotel Systems Corporation, a consulting
firm specializing in voice and data communications, systems design and
management, and will be presented by either of them.
