INTRODUCTION TO
DATA COMMUNICATIONS:
For Technical
Professionals
(3 Days)
PURPOSE
The wide availability and use of
technology such as Personal Computers, Local Area Networks, and digital
transmission based services have fundamentally changed the direction of data
communications. These technologies have increased the importance of data
communications, and added to the variety of concepts that need to be understood
for personnel to function efficiently in this rapidly changing field.
This seminar provides a wide breadth exposure to the many facets of data
communications, with essential detail in the important areas of interfaces,
protocols, packet switching, and local area networks. Each section will begin
with a management perspective, highlighting why this information is important,
and its influence on the big picture.
At the end of this intensive three-day seminar, attendees should have a
solid knowledge base on which to build expertise in the many dimensions of the
field. Participants will find this seminar challenging, however, extensive notes
are provided. In addition, the seminar leader is available before, during and
after class if necessary to ensure delegates get as much individual attention as
necessary.
The seminar uses a building block approach to introduce relevant concepts
such as transmission, modems and modulation, interfaces, protocols and network
architectures. From this knowledge base, specific applications and products are
introduced to provide participants with an understanding of the useful
applications of data communications technology. At the end of the three days,
the multitude of concepts will be tied together, providing a concise picture of
the many facets of data communications. The accent will be on those concepts
useful for the European environment.
OBJECTIVES
Participants will be able to:
 |
Understand the basic
components and concepts of data communications system and how they
inter-relate. |
 |
Attend a data communications
related meeting and understand and contribute to what is being discussed. |
 |
Explain to others the
operation of data communications. |
 |
Know the application of cost
saving concepts such as Routers, and switches, VPNs, etc. |
 |
Obtain an understanding of
local area networks, hubs, switches, gateways |
 |
